I am watching a bunch of your videos before I pick up my dog from a shelter. Question, does this mean for the rest of his life, I will be using a prong collar or can I transition to a normal one in a month or so (also which collar do you recommend?). Thanks
I've recently rescued a 4 y/o female Maremma here in Australia. I'm on a 9 acre bush block which makes things tricky and she seems very sensitive to loud noises. Some deer shooters fired off a few shots this morning, they would have been at least a kilometre away but Belle was quite terrified and shaking. I have faith she will develop her bush smarts out here, I do worry about the large monitor lizards on warm days though. They are quite brazen waltzing on to my property near my cabin in search of food, they do tend to retreat if confronted but they are not faster than a decent sized dog.
I just got permission to get a dog, maybe sometime after new years Iโll start going to shelters. We had a dog when I was growing up, got her from a shelter when she was 8 weeks, but being in my late 20โs this will be the first dog that is totally MINE. Iโm looking at 6 months to 3 years to skip the baby phases, but I know getting an โolderโ dog has its own unique challenges. So Iโm here.
We have a meet and greet with a rescue dog tonight, and it's my first time adopting my own dog as an adult. I might be panic watching videos on how to handle a rescue ๐
What a lovely video, and I suggest maybe putting the crucial note about waiting a few weeks before returning a dog due to the stress, and then maybe immediately follow up with the story of your Israeli dog. ๐I am sure many people have no idea about this! It was very touching and a great way to get the point across! Actually, maybe make a separate video just about that one fact of waiting to decide and allowing the dog to decompress :). Thanks so much for all you do, I'm about to adopt a 9 yo who had seems to have had a good home and loved cats, and I have a cat. The dog is very mellow. My cat loves dogs. So fingers crossed.
Thanks for the video we have a dog we've had for 4 years and we're getting a new dog today that's about a year old so I'm trying to learn everything I can to make it go smoothly
Great video… but I shutter when I see the dogs (especially new fosters or rescue dogs) all over your bed. I like them having their own plush beds.. and open crates .. like a den for them. How to teach them off furniture is so important…. and them being rewarded for going to their bed.

Tomorrow I finally get my 8 year old dog! Iโm so excited and also nervous. I love him already and I just really hope I can give him a good life โค
I have done this before but this is a good revision as while it wasnt super hard i had horrendous puppy blues
Crates should not be used it's cruel and for someone who is supposed to know what they are talking about you have no idea what you're on about
