This. i'm getting an Australian shepherd pup. She'll need to share her life with my 10 year-old border Aussie. I considered getting a litter mate, and I'm so glad I watched this video and read the comments. It does seem like quite honestly a bad idea. And this common in particular… 10 years of heartache… really hits home.
I’m actually fostering two puppies who were on the kill list. They are being driven all the way from NC to MD where I am tomorrow. We are saving them! I’m so honored to be a part of their rescue. We have a dog and 3 cats. I’m so scared after seeing this video!!!! I am taking them both out of necessity, they are 8 weeks old.
We ended up adopting two abandoned puppies we found a month ago, they’re Littermates and probably around 3-4 months old now. Looking for any and all tips lol do you have any videos on getting a puppy (or two) and an older dog use to each other? We have a 14 year old shih tzu and any time the pups get close to her (mainly our hyper girl pup) and we aren’t sure how to keep her from snapping at her face (we think she’s trying to play) but our older dog stilk doesn’t like it.
If I always separate them to eat, how will I know if they have resource guarding issues to work on?
We adopted 10 week old littermates from our local humane society this is very helpful
Heeding the warning. I think one at a time will be best for me. I considered two so they don't get lonely, but maybe it will be better to do doggy daycare and dog parks for socialization. Thanks for the tips 🙂.
I didn't know to keep separate kennels
I got 3 puppies lol. Same litter. But they are foxhounds that came from our hunt club, they come from a bloodline that has been hunting and housed together for the past 175 years. So I will say genetics were definitely on our side..but on top of that we took the time to train them individually and get them exposure to lots of different environments and scenarios. It was hard work but so rewarding. However, I would never recommend anyone do this because most times it doesn’t end well.
Goodness I wish I could’ve seen this 1 year ago. I was going to get 1 dog but the litter mate hadn’t been adopted yet. So my husband thought it would be a great idea to take them both home. Well, the difficulty training, grooming, etc only became more difficult as they grew. 1 year later and we have to consider finding the other one a new home. We have done every mistake. Same crate, etc.. etc… they are both precious but they can’t be together and be successful.

I have to brothers puppies when I put them in separate crates they whine. If they aren’t together how do I break that?
I’m so glad I’m seeing this now. My husband brought home 2 pups from the same litter for our boys. A male and female. They’re 12 weeks old and we’ve had them for a week. They learning how to walk on a leash still. They know how to sit and working on laying down. We have them go out to eat play and then eat and back outside. I’ve never had a dog and I want them to be happy and well mannered. Looking at getting another crate now and will work with them one on one.
Bringing two home tomorrow, best advice was separate space from the beginning. Fingers crossed, retired now so planning on dedicating the time.
I found 2 tiny 8 week old puppies in the street and had to keep them. A boy & a girl. It has been 5 days and now is when it is getting harder. They already learned to go on the pee pee pads but the playing is too rough. They often yelp from a bite. This has been very helpful and Im already exhausted thinking about what needs to be done lol.
Is there an age where you are in the clear and the dogs can start spending more time together? We are bringing home puppies that are 4 days apart but raised at the same place. We already planned on separate crates but didn’t know about the other issues. We are debating devastating our kids and just getting one and losing our deposit…
Ok so I have a puppy and my daughter had its brother she recently had a baby and is overwhelmed so I took the brother to lighten the load since I have no small children they were separated for about a month and bringing them together now was not what I expected how can I stop them from fighting the new puppy is being super aggressive even when my first pup is just playing help please
The thing is, I rescue a pregnant dog and have 8 babies. My bad luck is only 4, and the mom got adopted. I can't abandon them. I still post them on facebook and adopt fairs, but I have to train them as much as I can and pray I am looking for solutions, last time I rescued a pregnant dog all babies amd mom got adopted this time I have bad luck😢
I'm in an unfortunate situation. I had a litter of puppies before I was ready and at the moment I have 8 puppies who are almost 11 weeks old and have no prospects for homes. I have been trying as hard as I can to get the word out but unfortunately, during covid everyone got puppies and the market is very scarce. This was my first litter and overall it has gone well, other than the fact that I was not prepared to have to find buyers/homes so quickly. Right now, I have told myself that I need to act as if they will never be homed and think about what life looks like with all of them in a worst case scenario. I am confident in training as I have trained both of their parents, but I've always been big on littermate syndrome and I'm wondering if this is even possible. I plan on training them individually, I fortunately am off work for another two months so I do have the time to do it. My main concern was the crating. I live in a 1-bedroom apartment… I don't have the space for 10 large crate (they are mastiff mixes and will all be around 80-100 lbs) and that would also be incredibly expensive. I elected to build a larger enclosure then the one I am currently using. It will be 8ft x 8ft, and 4ft tall so they will have quite a bit of space and won't be able to escape. My main concern is that as they get older, the space will become less and less and it will be more likely that fights occur. I'm wondering if there is a point where I simply cannot keep that many puppies in a enclosed area, no matter how large it is. I do think it will work for the time being, but in a month or two I'm not sure if that's the case, what do you think?

Were bring home 2 st. Bernards!!!! One is mine, one is my mother who is staying with me (my mother and the dog) i was talking about how it will be hard to make sure they dont bond to hard. We want them bonding with us humans not one another (bonded yes sure but not need one another)
Thank you for this video. I bought one Shih Tzu for myself and another for my cousin, as we recently had 2 deaths in our family. My cousin decided she wasn’t ready for the puppy, so I’m now getting 2. This video really helped as I was experiencing anxiety abt having the 2. I bought 2 separate crates, 2 playpens, etc. I committed to doing the extra work, but I admit I’m feeling anxious abt it. I thought abt gifting the other pup to someone else, but after purchasing all the extra things after listening to this video I am going to stick this out. I’m going to sign up for the class once I get the pups. 🤞🏽
Thank you for this video. My husband and I got 11 week old Shibas. We never even heard about littermate syndrome until after getting our pups. Now we've done the research and are happy to do the extra work it takes to make them great dogs.

I just lost Junior, my 14 year old Rat Terrier. He was the last one from a family I started with his grandfather Moe, in 1995.
I also lost Junior’s sister and final playmate Bella, last summer. I watched him start to be less active and afraid of being alone since then. He was simply lonely.
Before, when I would come home from shopping or church, I was greeted by him with loud barking and excitement. Now, my house is so quiet. This hurts me and my ears more than hearing any loud noise.
I’ve learned at church about some free unplanned newborn Chihuahua puppies. I think these were chosen for me by God. I’m wanting to get two of them because I don’t want another lonely dog. I don’t want one to grow up without a playmate and I really don’t have the money to pay for a formal pet adoption or another puppy purchase. I simply want to have two dogs and this free puppy litter is a great opportunity for me.
My plan is to get a male and a female. I’ve learned from other videos that dogs get along better with the opposite sex.
I’m having to wait for at least another 7 and a half weeks before I can get my puppies. I still am sad about losing Junior just about 3 days ago on Saturday, but it was the next day that I was told about these 2 or 3 day old puppies. I’m now looking forward to getting them in January. I’ve never once had a chihuahua, but Moe was about the same size when I got him as a very young puppy. I don’t think he ever got any bigger than 6 pounds . Junior was about 11 pounds when he passed.
I’m doing a lot of research about Chihuahuas and how to raise them. I’m also giving my story to let people know so maybe they can give me advice in the next couple of months. Should I get two puppies or just one at a time? I’m definitely wanting 2 dogs sooner or later.

Im picking up my puppy cockapoo in two weeks. Problem is her sister fell in love with my son that has special needs. Im considering both – am i right in thinking the separate training could help the pups be less clingy to us also? So while i walk one the other slowly gets used to being alone, if that makes sense? Any advice?
I have two puppies and we are potty training but one I take one outside before I make it back inside the other has gone to the bathroom already whether they are in crate or pen. When can I take them both outside together? Or how else can I mitigate this?
